Rav Shimshon Raphael Hirsch, in my opinion, simplifies the interpretation of Deuteronomy 4:5 (and 4:39) as only God has independent existence and every other existence is dependent on God. Consciousness or awareness is a different issue and is relative to a person’s efforts and HaShem’s hashkachah pratite for the individual. Existence that is infinite and independent verses existence which is dependent on God defines God and man’s finite dependent nature.
I don't understand how the bread of shame arises from our sense of self? I thought it came from our ability to receive from God but inability to resemble him and give back.
First, mazel tov on this very insightful and interesting presentation! Concerning the description of an object that does not yet exist and the example you gave of a tape recorder in the 16th century - that would not work because there are so many things you have to describe which are totally outside even the conception of people in those days - that it would just not work . G-D provides all of the details that you need to understand a particular concept and object for each generation. Our modern contraptions are totally beyond the 10 of previous generations - certainly going back several centuries! ☺️
Writing again, you must like to hear yourself talk huh? DaVincis notebook disproves your little rant, and take it from a theoretical physicist your Mobius example is no different from your flawed analysis of the tape recorder. Do better.
Perhaps a good way to grasp our conception of G-D is to use the example of a MOBIUS STRIP - where you take a strip of paper give it one half twist and join the ends so it looks like a figure eight. Put your finger on one side and do one rotation - you end up on the other side. When you repeat the process you come back to the original side. This illustrates being in and outside of yourself - at the same time! The other idea has to do with the verb - TO ABSTRACT - meaning to pull back and see the context. We can only do that to Infinity - SO TO SPEAK. But, G-D is at the source of this ability. HE is both the abstractor and the abstracted - at the same time. ☺️
Thank you as always for an amazing shuir. What a blessing to learn about Hashem in such a deep concept.
